Trial against prison officers to begin

Update provided by Michael’s mother, Caroline Bailey

Dear Michael Bailey

To update all our family and friends regarding the trial of ‘Manslaughter by way of gross Negligence’ against Officers @ HMP Rye Hill.

This trial will commence on 27th February 2007 @ Northampton Crown Court; this trial is expected to run for 1 month.

Following this a further trial relating to the charges of ‘Corruption & Perverting the course of Justice’ will commence in April 2007, this trial will also last for approximately 1 month from the start date of which I will confirm later.

9 people have been charged to appear to charges relating to the above.

“I need some Justice for my son and his loss of life; they have all contributed to this in some way or another. Dear Michael would be 25yrs old now; however his life was cruelly cut short at the early age of 23yrs old. I need some answers now, my patience is running out. May God have mercy on them all?”

Further updates will follow – watch this space!

My heartfelt sympathy goes to Caroline Bailey, bereaved mother of Michael Bailey who died in the ‘care’ of HMP Rye Hill. I trust that in the forthcoming trial, “manslaughter by way of gross negligence”, those responsible for Michael’s death will be held to account.

My daughter was one of 6 women who died in the so-called care of HMP & YOI Styal in the 12 months ending August 2003. The 6 deaths have been described by INQUEST as “a clear example of corporate manslaughter”, yet no-one at the jail has ever been held to account.

To view INQUEST’s comment re corporate manslaughter, see BBC Online News report “Dying for Change”: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3955735.stm

God only knows what pain your family must be feeling after being robbed of such a young life.

Though it may feel you are alone there are many people following this case and hoping that the guilty pay for their contribution in ending this young man’s life.

    One love,

I hope you get answers to the many question you must have. This can be an unpleasant experience as the defence try to paint a different picture; but know whatever the outcome, in many people’s eyes the officers and the system that creates and employs them are as guilty as hell.

    Stand firm!

I was reading about the case of your son on the 4WardEver website and it really touched me – I hope you get the outcome you want.

Nothing will bring back your dear son but at least some justice could be done in his name and the guilty or responsible pay a price.

    Good luck

As the mother of Michael Bailey we are here trying to understand the Judicial system that we are expected to adhere to, it makes no sense where justice is concerned.

A young man suffers at the hands of a privately run prison and he loses his life and no one is held responsible, this decision was made by the Judge and not the Jury who were present and not permitted to give a verdict………..what is the point?

I have read what my son had to endure and I can visualise him daily going through that awful ordeal………He suffered, I don’t know how he lasted as long as he did.
I know who is responsible, what a horrific dreadful way for a young man – my precious son Michael Bailey to die.

    God does not sleep.
